Practice Manager
Practice Manager at Runners’ Edge Alaska
Location: Anchorage, AK Salary: $85,000–$120,000, commensurate with experience Reports to: CEO
Build Something That Matters
Runners’ Edge is Alaska’s only true sports physical therapy practice, and we’re growing. We’re looking for a Practice Manager who wants more than a job title — someone who wants to help build a practice that becomes the gold standard for sports PT in the state.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-impact leadership role at a values-driven, community-rooted clinic on its way to $3 million in annual revenue. You’ll work directly alongside the CEO to run the business, freeing up clinical leadership to focus on patients, while you own the systems, people, and operations that make everything else possible.
The Role
As Practice Manager, you own day-to-day operations of Runners’ Edge, so the CEO can stay focused on vision, strategy, and growth. The admin/front-desk team, billing, marketing, and the PT lead all report to you. You’ll oversee HR, payroll coordination, benefits administration, landlord and facility communication, compliance follow-through, referral source relationships, community engagement, and the daily questions that come up in a growing private practice.
The right person is both highly capable and highly grounded: someone who has helped run a $2–3 million physical therapy practice (or a comparable healthcare/services business), knows how to lead through growth, communicates with honesty, and is humble and trainable enough to adapt to the Runners’ Edge way of doing things. No hard cutoff on years of experience — we care more about demonstrated ability to run this kind of operation than a specific number, though several years managing a healthcare or multi-function team is a strong indicator.
What This Role Will Own
- Lead the operational side of Runners’ Edge so day-to-day issues are handled quickly, professionally, and consistently across the practice.
- Partner with the CEO to translate vision into weekly execution, measurable priorities, and sustainable systems.
- Work closely with clinical directors to align staffing, schedule flow, capacity planning, and patient experience with business goals.
- Partner with billing to improve operational handoffs, monitor revenue cycle issues, reduce friction, and support healthy collections and profitability.
- Lead, coach, and develop the admin and front-desk team, building clear standards for communication, follow-through, hospitality, and problem-solving.
- Manage or coordinate HR functions including onboarding, documentation, policies, performance support, employee communication, benefits administration, and payroll follow-through.
- Serve as the primary point person for landlord issues, vendors, facility needs, and operational troubleshooting across clinic spaces.
- Own compliance-related coordination so required documentation, processes, and deadlines are organized and completed on time.
- Help maintain and grow referral relationships by ensuring professional communication, reliable follow-up, and excellent service to partners and patients.
- Support community engagement efforts including events, partnerships, outreach, and opportunities that strengthen the Runner’s Edge brand in Alaska.
- Take ownership of miscellaneous operational emails, cross-functional questions, and the many “random” issues that can distract a founder from higher-value work.
What Success in the First 12 Months Looks Like
- The CEO is genuinely out of daily operational problem-solving
- The team you lead is better supported, more confident, and more accountable
- Clinical leadership, billing, and operations are running in tighter alignment
- HR, payroll, and compliance tasks run on a predictable, organized system
- Referral relationships and community engagement are more proactive and intentional
- Runners’ Edge has the operational foundation to scale toward $3 million in revenue
Who You Are
- You want to make a difference and help build something excellent
- You have experience and/or a strong track record helping lead and grow a $2–3 million outpatient healthcare practice, or a comparably complex operation
- You understand the moving parts of a growing healthcare business: people, process, finances, facilities, compliance, and customer experience
- You are honest, mature, and direct — people trust you because you follow through and tell the truth
- You are trainable: you bring expertise, but you’re not rigid or ego-driven
- You are a systems thinker who can build process without losing the heart of a people-centered business
- You can manage up, down, and across — supporting ownership, collaborating with clinical leaders and billing, and leading a multi-function team
- You are comfortable making decisions, solving problems quickly, and handling ambiguity without drama
Preferred Background
