At Runners’ Edge, we don’t guess about your strength, we measure it.
Most running injuries get treated the same generic way: rest, stretch, some light resistance bands, maybe a foam roller. It feels productive. But for endurance runners, that approach often isn’t enough to actually get you back on the road or trail pain-free and staying pain-free long-term.
Here’s the problem with “gentle” rehab for runners:
Running places far more force through your body than most people realize. Every stride, your calf and Achilles absorb load well beyond your bodyweight (repeated thousands of times over a single run). Rehab that only uses light weights and high reps doesn’t come close to preparing your body for that demand. It might reduce pain temporarily, but it won’t build the resilience you need to stay off the injury-and-recovery treadmill.

What we do differently
We use VALD force plate and dynamometry technology to measure exactly how much force your body can produce, tolerate, and recover from. These are the same tools used by professional and Olympic-level sports science teams.Â
By using VALD technology,
- We know your numbers, not just your symptoms. Tests like the isometric mid-thigh pull, countermovement jump, and joint-specific strength assessments tell us where your strength, power, and asymmetries stand compared to benchmarks proven to support healthy distance running.
- Your program is built on your data. No cookie-cutter plans. If your numbers show you’re under-strength, we build strength. If you’re strong but not explosive, we build power and reactivity. The plan follows the data, not a generic protocol.
- You can see your progress. Every session, we track your numbers against your baseline and against benchmarks for runners like you. Watching your force output climb in real numbers, on a graph isn’t just motivating, it’s proof the plan is working.
- We know when you’re actually ready to run again. “It doesn’t hurt anymore” isn’t the same as “ready to handle 30 miles a week.” We use objective thresholds to clear you for return to running and to know when to safely increase your training load.
The bottom line
Testing takes the guesswork out of your recovery. You’ll always know where you stand, what we’re working on, and why!
